Iran is interested in renegotiating the agreements with Qatar over the offshore South Pars natural gas field.
Iranian Gas Phases of South Pars Director Ali Vakili said that the agreement is up for change, Ameinfo.com news agency reported Wednesday.
Vakili said at a news conference in Tehran, "When the amount of Iran's extraction increases, the pressure is reduced on Iran's side of the reserve and, as a result ,the gas will move from Qatar toward Iran.
"Thus not only do we prevent emigration of the gas but with more extraction we bring back the gases that have emigrated. Since the time of the signing of the contract for the eight new South Pars phases 16 million cubic meters of earth operations has been done.
"Our only obstacle in this region is an imam's burial shrine (within the limits of Phase 13) that the Endowments Organization has not given us permission to move. It therefore appears the construction of installations and the refinery must be done beside it."
