Asia:India makes 112 hydrocarbon discoveries since 2002

Since October 2002, following the discovery of gas assets in the KG basin, 112 hydrocarbon discoveries have been made in India so far under Production Sharing Contract regime, according to Jitin Prasada, the India s Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Of these, 79 hydrocarbon discoveries have been made by private and foreign companies.
Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Industries tops the list with 46 discoveries followed by Cairn Energy at 15. Essar Oil has 5 discoveries to its credit with the platform being shared by Jubilant Oil and Gas. Hindustan Oil Exploration Company stands at 3 discoveries and two each discovery by Niko Resources and Focus Eenergy Limited.
Public sector companies, in a span of three years have managed to discover a total of 118 assets under PSC regime and nomination blocks. ONGC managed 86, Oil India Limited 19 and Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation Limited another 13.
