China: Sinopec Guangdong rations gasoil retail supply

Sinopec Guangdong told its city-level sales companies to ration gasoil retail supply as from Nov 12, according to market sources.

Regarding gasoil supply, Sinopec Guangdong gives priority to Guangzhou and Zhuhai, as the former is holding the Asian Games and the latter will hold an aviation exhibition later this month. But it rations supply modestly in the rest of the Pearl River Delta and restricts supply rigidly in areas adjacent to other provinces, sources said.

The company rationed daily provincial retail supply to 16,000mt for work days and 15,000mt for non-work days, sources noted.

Before the restriction, Sinopec Guangdong's gasoil retail sales volume was growing by over 1,000mt per day, as independent wholesalers had restricted or suspended retail supply amid supply shortage and relatively high wholesale prices. More vehicles had been attracted to the company's gas stations.

"If we do not restrict supply, our supply shortage may be above 100,000mt this month," a source with Sinopec explained.
