Shanxi Antai Group Holding Co., Ltd. determined to put off the construction of its 200kt/y coke oven gas-to-methanol project.
According to the company, most methanol and dimethyl ether manufacturers witnessed losses as prices were lower than cost prices.
By the end of 2010, China methanol capacity would amount to 29.534 million t/y while output would be only around 14.8 million t/y as most facilities operated at most around 50%, predicted by Feng Shiliang, senior analyst from China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.
However, since consumption in traditional downstream industries had been saturated, many enterprises were increasingly active in developing new application areas of methanol in future market.
