Sinopec Jiujiang Petrochemical may shut a 1-mil-mt/yr fluid catalytic cracker for 40-day maintenance in December, a refinery source said, adding its daily crude throughput would inch down by then.

The refinery had already started to build a 1.5-mil-mt/yr gasoil hydrogenation unit and a 1.2-mil-mt/yr continuous reformer, which are expected to be operational in the second half of 2011, according to the source.

It is yet to kick off the construction of a 5-mil-mt/yr crude distillate unit, which is scheduled to come on stream in the first half of 2013, the source also revealed.

The above mentioned three units were included in Jiujiang Petrochemical's 10-mil-mt/yr crude refining capacity expansion project. When the project was fully completed, the refinery would not only be able to cover the entire demands for oil products in Jiangxi Province, but also supply part of its resources to nearby markets.

Jiujiang Petrochemical, located in Jiujiang City of Central China's Jiangxi Province, is currently equipped with two CDUs with annual capacities of 5-mil mt and 1.5-mil mt, respectively. It processed not more than 5-mil mt of crude in 2009.
