China: Run rate of major Chinese refineries inches up to 86.73%

Operating rates of major Chinese refineries averaged 86.73% on Oct 14, slightly up 0.91 percentage points from two weeks ago, 2.24 percentage points higher compared to the same period last year, a survey found.

Daqing Refining & Chemical and Jinxi Petrochemical both wrapped up maintenances and resumed normal operations at the beginning of October; in the meantime, Maoming Petrochemical and Fushun Petrochemical started to revamp their crude distillate units with capacity totaling 6-mil mt per year. Other refineries largely kept their operating rates steady.

The above figures were obtained through computation on the basis of primary refining capacities of refineries. If calculated on the basis of their complex refining ratio, the average run rate would be about 92.92%, up 0.97 percentage points from last survey.

The average run rate is likely to stay steady in the coming two weeks, as conditions for upside adjustment in prices of oil products might be met amid rising international crude benchmarks, market sources expected.

The 23 major Chinese refineries surveyed have a combined annual refining capacity of 281-mil mt.
