Europe; French Arkema declares force majeure on oxo alcohols from Lavera

Write: Mariposa [2011-05-20]
p>French petrochemical producer Arkema has declared force majeure at its oxo alcohol production unit at Lavera, France due to strike action at the port, a company spokesman said.

The production of 2-ethylhexanol (2-eh) and butanol from the plant was halted due to a lack of feedstock from the steam cracker at the site, he said, adding that captive usage for acrylates, acetates and plasticizer production was as yet unaffected.

Strikers in the port, part of Europe's third largest hub Marseille, have been protesting for more than two weeks against proposed pensions reforms in France. Sources have reported that the port is blocked with shipping traffic while other transport links out of the port have also been hit.(see story
