Americas: Petrologistics to start up propylene plant in Texas this weekend

p>US propylene producer Petrologistics was expected to begin feeding its new 500-kt/year propane dehydrogenation unit in Houston, Texas, this weekend, sources told Platts.

The company originally intended to start up the plant in late August or early September but faced mechanical setbacks on at least two occasions.

Petrologistics is initially expected to produce 70% CGP and 30% PGP. Propylene contracts in the US could be under further downward pressure given the additional supply.

US contracts were set to fall 1.5 cents in October as many participants in the negotiation process were heard to have agreed to the decrease.

Still, sources said Enterprise was holding out and as a result delaying the final settlement. Confirmation from the company was not available by time of publication.

If the contract does fall 1.5 cents/lb, October PGP would be at 58.50 cents/lb while CGP would be at 57 cents/lb.
