Shaanxi Province in Northwest China has put off the plan for spreading use of methanol gasoline, which was originally scheduled to be effective from Oct 1, according to a local government official.
"Popularization plan for methanol gasoline was lay on the table due to election of responsible official at expiration of office terms, and when it will be put on the agenda again is unknown," said an official with the office in charge of popularizing methanol gasoline under the Development & Reform Commission of Shaanxi Province.
"Even if the plan was put into effect in the future, methanol gasoline would be first generalized just in some pilot areas instead of the whole province," added the official.
A source with YCZL New Energy, a major potential methanol gasoline supplier in Shaanxi, told C1 that the company has not put its methanol gasoline plants into production so far because of no notice from the government on popularization of the fuel.
YCZL New Energy is an oil product trader as well as methanol gasoline producing and trading company with stakes controlled by the Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group).
The popularization of methanol gasoline would not be affected by no supply from Sinopec, according to the official with the Development & Reform Commission of Shaanxi Province.
Earlier, Sinopec's president Wang Tianpu said on the company's interim results announcement conference that Sinopec would not like to supply M15 methanol gasoline.
Currently, in Shaanxi, Sinopec owns not more than 100 petrol stations, occupying 2.3% of the total; about 26% petrol stations there are owned by PetroChina.
In Shaanxi, private petrol stations will more likely be the first to supply methanol gasoline, although most of them were not active in the matter, market sources expected.
A source with PetroChina Shaanxi also revealed the company got no notice on supply methanol gasoline.
