p>Major Chinese refineries' operating rates averaged 85.39% Thursday, up 1.59 percentage points from two weeks ago, a survey found. This run rate was up 0.34 percentage points from a year earlier.

The average operation rate climbed after Jinzhou Petrochemical and Lanzhou Petrochemical wrapped up maintenance and hiked throughput.

The above figures were obtained through computation on the basis of primary refining capacities of refineries. If calculated on the basis of their complex refining ratio, the average run rate would be about 90.83%, up 2.03 percentage points from last survey.

Daqing Refining & Chemical, Jinxi Petrochemical, Lanzhou Petrochemical, CNOOC Huizhou refinery and Yangzi Petrochemical are expected to complete maintenance in the second half of September, likely to bolster up the average run rate further.

The operation rate will probably stay above 80% in October, as PetroChina and Sinopec have scheduled very little maintenance for the month, according to refinery sources.

The 23 refineries C1 surveyed have a combined annual refining capacity of 281-mil mt.
