p>The feasibility report of PetroChina Huabei Petchem's 10-mil-mt/yr oil refining capacity expansion project has been approved by the National Development & Reform Commission, marking start-up of the project, according to a refinery source.
The project is expected to be complete in October 2012 and come on stream two months later, the source said.
To match the project, Huabei Petrochemical would build 1-mil-mt/yr ethylene unit and 1-mil-mt/yr aromatics project in the future, added the source.
Huabei Petrochemical, which was formally named as Huabei Oilfield Refinery, has a topping capacity of 5-mil mt per year at present. It is equipped with a 2.8-mil-mt/yr fluid catalytic cracker while no delayed coker. With a 100,000-mt/yr polypropylene production unit coming online in 2005, the refinery became a petrochemical complex.
