At a meeting in St. Petersburg, "the sides considered a possibility of the Vietnamese side's participation in the Eastern Siberia-Far East gas development program, coordinated by Gazprom at the appointment of the Russian government," Gazprom said in a statement.
The program is "to create a single system of gas production, transportation and supply in Russia's East Siberia and Far East with possible exports to the markets of China and other countries of the Asia-Pacific region", the spokeswoman with Gazprom said.
During a meeting, the sides "gave a positive evaluation" of the companies' joint projects offshore Vietnam and pointed out there were good prospects for future cooperation in Russia and third-party countries.
Gazpromviet, the planned 51:49 joint venture to develop hydrocarbon projects in Russia and third countries, will be set up "in the nearest future," a Gazprom source said, indicating a delay from earlier plans to establish the venture in August.
The meeting was attended by Gazprom deputy CEO Alexander Ananenkov and PetroVietnam vice president Nguyen Tien Dung.
Gazprom and PetroVietnam decided to form Gazpromviet in May 2008.
