p>China's CNOOC and Shell Petrochemicals Co., or CSPC, has restarted its propylene oxide/styrene monomer plant at Nanhai, a company source said Monday.

The plant in Guangdong province, which is able to produce 250,000 mt/year of propylene oxide and 700,000 mt/year of SM, has been shut since August 24 for repairs after a problem was found in the propylene oxide unit.

The company plans to ramp up run rates from 50-60% currently to 100% of nameplate capacity by the end of the week to meet demand for SM before the Golden Week holidays over October 1-7, the company source added.

CSPC completed a two-month expansion of its integrated steam cracker and petrochemical complex at Nanhai in May.

The expansion raised CSPC's SM capacity by 140,000 mt/year to 700,000 mt/year, making it the largest domestic SM producer by nameplate capacity.

CNOOC and Shell each have 50% share in CSPC via CNOOC Petrochemicals Investment and Shell Nanhai respectively.
