The FCC, which can make 900,000 mt/year of propylene, is in the process of restarting, the source said, but added that on-spec production had not been attained.
The FCC was due to restart early last week, Platts had reported August 12, but the resumption of production was delayed as it was experiencing instability due to recent repairs.
The FCC, which Petro Rabigh refers to as a "deep catalytic cracker," has been offline since August 2 for repairs, forcing a shutdown of the company's polypropylene plant at the same time.
Petro Rabigh uses all its propylene output to make PP and propylene oxide. The company's PP and PO capacities are at 700,000 mt/year and 400,000 mt/year, respectively.
