Methanol Manufacturers in Henan, China Suffered Complete Losses

Write: Madeline [2011-05-20]
Methanol facilities in Henan Province operated less than 20% and local methanol manufacturers suffered complete losses.

China methanol factories adjusted downward operation rates as large amounts of imports were priced at lower level in domestic market since economic downturn in 2008. As yet, materials in the province were priced around Rmb 2000/ton. Losses of single methanol and combinative methanol product respectively reached Rmb 1000/ton and Rmb 500/ton.

Henan province owned 4800 kt/y methanol capacity and had an output of 1.58 million tons in 2009, both of which ranked the first in China market. However, total capacities of its downstream product dimethyl ether were only around 1500kt/y.

As a result, to expand methanol downstream application sectors, Henan Coal Chemical Industry finished installation of 40kt/y polyoxymethylene project on August 5th while local government pressed on with the regulation of dimethyl ether for civil use.
