China: Shell to operate 300 petrol stations in Hebei, Shandong

Shell is expected to operate nearly 100 petrol stations in Hebei Province, North China and 200 in Shandong Province, a company source said without giving time schedule.

The company plans to reach the goal by building new petrol stations, acquisition, lease, share controlling, share participation and contracting, etc, according to the source.

"Shell Tianjin will be in charge of expanding oil product retail networks in Hebei and Tianjin," said the source.

The oil giant has acquired several petrol stations in Hebei since the begging of this year, while it was still investigating Shandong market, the source revealed.

Shell Tianjin is a joint-venture between Shell and the Tianjin State Farms Agribusiness Group.

Earlier, media reported Shell would set up branch in Shandong to run 200 petrol stations.

Shell has limited petrol stations in Shandong currently, most of which are located in the capital city of Ji'nan, revealed a source with PetroChina Shandong.

In China, Shell mainly sources oil products via tender from PetroChina, Sinopec, CNOOC and some large independent wholesalers at present. It will likely continue to purchase oil products from the above suppliers for its petrol stations, market sources reckoned.

Shell owns more than 10 petrol stations in Beijing and over 60 in Tianjin, both of which were in North China.

As reported earlier, Shell jointed hands with Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum aiming to operate about 1,000 petrol stations in Northwest and Southwest China.
