No more fluoride in the water for Sandpoint

Write: Caldwell [2011-05-20]
There s a little something extra in the Sandpoint water, but ti won t be there much longer.

City leaders voted to stop adding fluoride to the water. This comes amid recent arguments from people saying they re being medicated against their will.

A group of citizens have been petitioning the city council to remove fluoride from the water. Now the council has taken action. Fluoride has been recommended by the Centers for Disease Control to help promote good oral health, but several groups in Sandpoint raised questions about where the fluoride was coming from and how it was interacting with other chemicals in the water.

The mayor says many council members voted to remove the fluoride because they believe they should not add anything to the water unless it is for public safety.

The city had been adding fluoride since 1951. The city will stop putting it in come October.
