Kerala Agri varsity introduces innovative courses

Apart from introducing a first of its kind post graduate course in Global Warming and Climate Change, Kerala Agricultural University has come out with several innovative courses such as MSc in biotechnology and diploma in solid waste management.
The MSc in Global Warming and Climate Change is an integrated course implemented in colloboration with ISRO, ICRISAT and Western Australian Universitt, meant for those who have completed 10 + 2 learning.
KAU also offers another integrated MSC course in Bio-technology which is also an area with ever increasing significance considering the priority of food grain and vegetable production. Admission to this course also is open to Higher Secondary Science group students with good academic record. An admission test will screen the applicants. MBA in Agri business management is another course available in KAU. Graduates in any discipline can apply for the admission test for this course. The successful completion of this two year programme enables the students to take up employment in Agri business sector, Banking and insurance sector , in addition to all other opportunities available to MBA holders in general.
Apart from the traditionally job guaranteed Bachelor courses in Agriculture and Veterinary, KAU also offers degree programmes in agriculture allied subjects. Bachelor of fishery Sciences, BTech in Agricultural Engg, BSc (Forestry )and BSc Hons( C&B) are apt courses for students with right aptitude desiring jobs in agri related sectors. While admission to courses other than BSc(C&B) is from rank list prepared by entrance commissioner on the basis of options exercised by students after CAP, admission to BSc(C&B) is done by KAU itself on the basis of an admission test.
KAU also plans a PG Diploma course in solid waste management, another first attempt in this sector. This one year course aims to equip professional and science graduates to address the ever growing menace of waste accumulation in our towns and townships. The curriculum content of this course will be finalised in consultation with scientists and people's representatives in a work shop to be arranged shortly, revealed KAU Vice-chancellor K.R.Viswambharan.
KAU, having been adjudged best agricultural University in India for the past three consecutive years, gives the best platform for aspiring scientists and civil servants. Last year seven students from College of forestry made it to Indian Forests service(IFS) while many others from different streams of study in KAU secured Research scholarships from ICAR.
