BP has spent more than $3 billion as clean up cost on oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the company said in a statement.

The total amount the company has spent to date comes around $3.12 billion, including the cost of the spill response, containment, relief well drilling, grants to the Gulf states, claims paid, and federal costs, the company said.

Approximately 44,500 personnel, more than 6,563 vessels and some 113 aircraft are currently engaged in the response effort. The total length of containment boom deployed as part of efforts to prevent oil from reaching the coast is now almost 2.9 million feet.

On June 16, BP announced an agreed package of measures, including the creation of a $20 billion escrow account to satisfy certain obligations arising from the oil and gas spill.
