India seeks German investment in petrochemicals

India has sought German investment in the country's fast growing chemical and petrochemicals sector. Srikant Jena, India's Minister for Chemicals & Fertilisers who is currently leading a delegation to Germany to explore business opportunities, said that the nation is committed to provide world class infrastructure for the growth of Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Regions (PCPIR).

The PCPIR at Dahej is already functional while those at Haldia, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Paradeep in Orissa are in the pipeline.He pointed out that East Coast region is attractive investment destination for German companies.

The proposal for a PCPIR in Paradeep of Orissa is under the process of governmental approval. He also mentioned that within the proposed PCPIR, there could be SEZs, Plastic Parks, Growth Centres, etc., which would provide investment opportunities in the entire value chain of petrochemicals.

Among others who are accompanying the Minister are Neel Kamal Darbari, Joint Secretary, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Arvind Agarwal, Managing Director of Gujarat Industries Development Corporation, DG, CIPET Dr. S.K. Nayak, Advisor FICCI, Rajan Kohli and representatives of chemical industry.

GIDC Chief invited German companies to invest in Dahej in Gujarat which has already witnessed a commitment of US $ 15 billion investment in its PCPIR region.

Sudhir Vyas, India s Ambassador to Germany assured the German side to provide all the information that the German companies may seek on investment opportunities in India particularly in Chemicals and Petrochemicals sector.
