Clariant launches biopolymer masterbatch range

June 23-A new range of masterbatches from Clariant has been certified for biopolymer applications in Europe and the US. The Renol brand has more than 80 pigments and come with UV-stabiliser and antioxidant packages.

The product is made with a mixture of natural and non-natural additives, meaning they are more economical and process-stable than so-called 'natural' products, according to Clariant.

As interest in biopolymers grows, there is increasing demand for colours and additives with better environmental profiles, said Hendrik Kammler, head of global marketing additives. These new masterbatches incorporate conventional ingredients, while remaining compostable.

Clariant is in the process of getting the OK compost certification from AIB Vin otte International for the Renol range. The compostable products made at the Clariant facility in Sant Andreu de la Barca, Spain, are expected to be certified in July.
