Fire ravages Wakefield's Polyurethane Progress

Write: Allegra [2011-05-20]
June 23-Fire officers have reported that they were forced to seal off roads around a Wakefield plastics factory following a fire (June 11) due to fear of chemical leakage.

West Yorkshire fire officers described the blaze at the Polyurethane Progress plant as "potentially very serious". Damage to the building was described as "considerable."

A fire brigade spokesman explained that the precautions were taken due to the damage to a drum of isocyanate.

The cause of the fire is now being investigated but initial reports suggest that it was due to an electrical fault.

A spokesman for the company said that production at the site had only suffered a temporary interruption.

The family owned company, in business for 25 years, specialises in seals manufactured in polyurethane, thermoplastic rubber, acetate and nylon.
