In the afternoon of November 22^nd, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee & Premier of the State Council, Wen Jiabao visited Lingang Base of Shanghai Electrics. He emphasized that confidence was a powerful weapon to deal with the current international economic turmoil and financial crisis. Enterprises need to stabilize the market as well as ride out the storm by means of confidence.

Accompanied by Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee & Secretary of Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, Yu Zhengsheng, and Mayor Han Zheng, Premier Wen Jiabao visited Marine Crankshaft Co., Ltd. of Shanghai Electrics, Power Station Group Lingang Factory of Shanghai Electrics and Nuclear Devices Co., Ltd. of Shanghai Electrics and also inspected the production of nuclear island and conventional island.

He asked the production, manufacturing process and operation of products while he was visiting them. He fully affirmed the achievements made by Shanghai Electrics through promoting the industrial structure adjustment and implementing independent creative projects. He was especially excited when he got to know that Shanghai Electrics had succeeded in manufacturing the first good-sized marine crankshaft with its own intellectual property rights in China on its own power and changed the status that our country had depended on the imported marine crankshaft for a long time in the past.

He boarded the workbench of the crankshaft machine, carefully looked over the process and expressed his appreciation for the breakthrough made by Shanghai Electrics, which had taken the lead in the localization of the good-sized marine crankshaft.

He said that large-scale enterprises concerned the national security and national economic lifeline with the characters such as a long industrial chain, a high degree of upstream and downstream correlation and a large radiation effect so they were vitally important for the national economy and social development; in the face of the severe shock of the international financial crisis, it was necessary to promote the sound development of large-scale enterprises, wholly stabilize the national economy and boost the economic steady and rapid development; mergers and reorganizations of enterprises shall be strongly encouraged; enterprises shall be supported to grow bigger and stronger; resources must be utilized in a rational way; wash out the backward productivity; improve the industrial concentration; increase investment in research and development; strengthen the technical transformation and improve the capability of independent innovation.
