ZTE WDM equipment ZXWM M900 won National Science & Technology Advancement Award

Recently the State Council solemnly held "National Science & Technology Awards Conference" to issue the highest national science & technology awards in 2007. ZTE's ULH and large-capacity optical transmission equipment ZXWM M900 won National Science & Technology Advancement Award.

Mr. Zhao Yong from ZTE Corporation attended the conference. Zhao said that the project belongs to the information technology and is one of major projects in National 863 Plan. It gets some breakthroughs in system technology, unit system, on-site project application and project test technology of ULH and large-capacity WDM transmission. It has autonomous intellectual property in core technologies like optical amplification, high-speed optical modulation, ultra-strong error-collection coding and system optimization, which are leading in the world.

As the mainstream solution to optical backbone transmission networks of international and domestic carriers, ZXWM M900 is favored by carriers due to maturity and stability. It is used for China's first ULH optical transmission network in China and for the world's largest WDM backbone transmission network.

Now it is deployed widely in many nations and regions across the global. ZTE's high-end optical network products, represented by ZXWM M900, had the highest average growth rate for 3 straight years and the market share ranks the top 3 in the world. In 2007 ZTE got the award of "2006-2007 Top 10 China's Competitive Enterprises in Optical Communications".

The State Council set up National Science & Technology Awards Committee and appointed some experts and scholars to form Review Board and review National Science & Technology Awards. The Awards are given to technologists and relative organizations which contribute greatly to science & technology achievement desemination and significant science & technology projects, plans, etc. They are the highest awards in science and technology in China.
Zhao said that it was ZTE's another highest national science & technology award after our transmission shared protection switching protocol got China Patent Excellence Award. ZTE always attaches importance to R&D and self-innovation. The annual R&D investment is 10% of the whole sale income, and 5 optical transmission R&D centers have been established all over the world. ZTE constantly researched core technologies on optical transmission. Now ZTE has 5 ITU-T editor seats and over 620 domestic patents and 87 international patents.
