ZTE enjoys 49% rise in gear sales

Focus on mobile phone manufacturing and technology export has worked for mainland telecom gearmaker, ZTE, whose income rose to a hefty 49.96% last year. The company reported that its contract sales soared to 25.19 billion yuan in 2003, with handset business contributing 66.3 % to 4.82 billion yuan, while customer wins in 13 countries contributed 5.02 billion yuan.

Its more recent customer wins include 334.33 million yuan contract to supply CDMA equipment to China Unicom s Yunnan branch. Another CDMA contract, worth 266.36 million yuan, was won for Unicom s Guizhou branch.

ZTE also secured a 245.66 million yuan contract to supply limited mobility device called xiaolingtong to Shandong Communications.

The company s net profit was up 72.4% to 295.49 million yuan for the first nine months of last year. Sales revenue rose 59.4% to 9.79 billion yuan.
