Mainland China ZTE Corp. has recently entered a joint venture in Congo. The new company is named CCT (Congo-China Telecom S.A.R.L) Ltd after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Congo-China Trade Center. Huang Yong, CCT general manager, announced that the CCT network is in operation. He said that phase one of the construction is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2001 and phase two would be launched soon after.

In June 2000, ZTE signed an agreement with the Congo government. This agreement authorized the Congo-China JV formed by ZTE and the Ministry of Post and Communication of Congo to construct a GSM 1800 network in Congo. In December 2000, the Export and Import Bank of China and the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Congo signed a favorable loan contract in Beijing.

According to the contract, the loan will be used in the construction of the phase one project being undertaken by CCT.
