Chinese enterprises to mount on global operations

Executives of Chinese information technology and communication companies showing up at the Communicasia 2001 in Singapore have affirmed that Chinese enterprises, especially high-tech companies, have shown their ability in reaching out to world communication market and made encouraging advance in this respect.

During an Interview at Communicasia 2001, both Yuan Xin, Senior Vice President of Shanghai Bell Company Limited and Shi Lirong, Senior Vice-President of ZTE Corporation in Shenzhen said that the encouraging experiences of their respective companies have testified to the capability of Chinese enterprises, especially the high-tech companies, to mount on global operations.

Under the guidance of the policy of opening-up to the outside world, Chinese enterprises have accumulated precious experiences in reaching out and made encouraging advances in growing their competitive capability in the world market, they noted. In some areas, we have our own edge-cut technologies or art-of-state products and in other areas we enjoy advantages in serving our customers, especially customers in the developing countries, they added.

...Shi Lirong said ZTE also devotes itself to global operation by exporting networking products, contracting for communication engineering, setting up joint ventures, and investing in local communication operations. He said that more than ten categories of products are running in telecom networks in over 30 countries or areas, including developed countries such as the US It has also set up offices in some 50 countries and established business relations with more than 70 countries.

Shi said, ZTE s US$95-million joint venture with Pakistan Telecommunication Company went into operation in April last year and its joint venture in Congo started to offer telecommunication services of domestic mobile communication, long-distance call and international tandem in December last year. ZTE, one of China s leading telecom manufacturer and network solution provider, has a staff of more than 10,000 members with 85 percent being university graduates and more than 3500 persons holding doctorate or master degrees.
