QUALCOMM LICENSES CDMA 2000 EV-DO TO CHINA S ZTE

Write: Lorimer [2011-05-20]

Qualcomm has licensed its CDMA 2000 EV-DO technology to China s largest telecoms manufacturer ZTE. ZTE is the first Chinese vendor to license the technology, which follows 1xRTT in the CDMA 2000 upgrade path and allows a maximum throughput of 2.4 Megabits per second. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

EV-DO has so far gone live in Korea and is being trialled by Verizon in the US. Dr James Jiang, GM, ZTE San Diego, implied the move was to satisfy domestic ambitions. " ZTE believes that CDMA 2000 1xEV-DO is one of the best technologies to support China s growing need for high-speed wireless Internet access, " he said.

ZTE and Qualcomm already have an arrangement for CDMAOne technology announced last May. ZTE is a supplier of China Unicom, Qualcomm s great hope for CDMA in China.
