ZTE to Supply Communications Solutions for Beijing Olympics

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games ensuring that operation of the Games' 3G network infrastructure will remain reliable and stable throughout the event.

Yin Yimin, CEO of ZTE said in a statement that following their successful participation in the Athens 2004 Olympic Games where they provided broadband and communications services, they are very proud that ZTE's expertise will again play a key role in managing efficient operation of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games' communications network.

The company's sources inform that major Chinese telecom players have picked ZTE to supply equipment and solutions for the deployment of advanced 3G networks. China Mobile (News - Alert) has selected ZTE to construct TD-SCDMA networks in several major Chinese cities including Olympic host cities Beijing and Qingdao. China Mobile has also purchased a significant number of TD-SCDMA handsets with ZTE supplying 30 percent of the order.

ZTE has joined hands with China Telecom (News - Alert) and China Satellite Communication on an emergency communications security system for the Qingdao Olympic Regatta. The company has also been working on communications exercises with Unicom and Netcom to ensure that all components of the 3G network are successfully deployed before the Games begins in August 2008.

ZTE is also helping China Telecom with an upgrade to their Shanghai IPTV to meet the high demand for TV broadcasts during the Beijing Olympic Games.

A team of 200 technical experts from ZTE will be in Beijing as part of its Olympic Communications Support Group to provide critical technical support in managing the event's communications network.
