Chinese company reports sales growth of 150 per cent in Europe, alongside total jump of 50 per cent across all regions, in line with plan to be among top three handset vendors by 2016
Chinese telecom equipment vendor and handset maker ZTE has announced its total annual sales volume of terminal products, including handsets and USB dongles, was up 50 per cent to 90 million units in 2010.
These figures follow the highly successful introduction of ZTE handsets such as the Blade into the European market where year- on- year sales volume growth reached 150 per cent last year. ZTE also achieved 100 per cent year-on-year growth in the US market.
The volume of sales obtained in Europe and the US added to success in ZTE s home market, China, where it said it won major tenders from leading operators to become a leading player in the 3G handset market.
According to research firm iSuppli, ZTE secured 240,000, or 80 per cent, of unit sales from China Telecom in the period, due largely to the popularity of sub- 100 (RMB1,000) smartphones.
ZTE also released a seven inch tablet with integrated voice calling capabilities last year which achieved 80 per cent year-on-year sales growth last year.
In a statement the company said it expects to sell 120 million units of all its terminal products globally in 2011 and plans to advance its global branding to become one of the top three handset vendors worldwide within the next five years .
