Successfully trial-produced the highest level X120 pipeline steel plate of the world on 2250mm hot strip line, TISCO has become the first X120 pipeline steel plate producer on the earth; it is another breakthrough for pipeline steel technology after X80 pipeline steel production.
Pipeline steel is mainly used for manufacturing of oil and gas transportation pipelines. Most of natural gas fields concentrate in the remote regions such as desert, polar tundra etc, therefore high reliability and efficiency is required for pipeline steel. If the strength of steel pipe is higher, its diameter and wall thickness can be less without affecting gas transportation, then the steel amount for long distance transportation pipeline can be greatly saved, resulting in reducing steel construction comprehensive cost greatly. Therefore, in the past two decades, modern pipeline steel has been developed to super high strength direction. Previously, only the Japanese Nippon steel, Sumitomo and China Baosteel trail-produced X120 pipeline steel sheet are applied, but there is no precedent for X120 plate produced by hot strip mill.
Pipeline steel with high strength and high grade has been regarded as one of the most important strategic steel grade in TISCO since 2250mm Hot Strip Mill was put into production. And TISCO has concentrated advantaged resources, launched high grade steel research and development such as X80 & X120 pipeline steel and hydrosulphuric acid resistant material. TISCO successfully developed X80 pipeline steel in 2007, becoming one of earliest and biggest batch supplier for the west-east gas transmission project. Recently, industrial test of X120 pipeline steel plate was performed. Test result shows that the main performance indexes such as yield strength, tensile strength, impact force, DWTT shear, etc. are all better than the requirements of latest version of the pipeline steel standard of American Petroleum Institute, and the products have a good comprehensive property and reach the quality level of Nippon steel plate as well.
TISCO will continue to research X120 plate application technology, and enhance the development of high grade steel such as hydrosulphuric acid resistant steel and high-strain resistant pipeline steel etc, so as to meet the increasingly stringent requirements of pipeline engineering.
