TISCO Successfully Developed Mn18Cr18N Steel Achieving the Zero Breakthrough of China

On January 2, TISCO successfully developed forged Mn18Cr18N stainless steel used for generator protective rings. Based on system test, all the performance indicators reach the level of imported products, achieving the zero breakthrough of domestic development of super high nitrogen( 6000PPM) stainless steel.
Power-generating capacity in China increases by about 6% per year, special material Mn18Cr18N stainless steel is required for the protective rings for the important parts of nuclear power and thermal power generators which account for 80% of total power generation. Due to the high technology and processing difficulties, China has not mastered related process technology for the manufacture of protective rings steel, and has no batch production ability either. At present, all the material needed in China are imported, making Mn18Cr18N stainless steel for generator protective rings become the bottleneck for state power construction.
The leaders of central government and NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) put forward the requirement to TISCO in May of 2007 that our company should share the burdens of the State and develop some steel products in short supply for national equipment manufacturing industry as soon as possible, majoring in Mn18Cr18N stainless steel protecting ring.In July of 2007, TISCO constituted a special development group for the steel grads in short supply of the State. The customer inquiry and on-the-spot investigation have been done by our team headed by Mr. Li Xiaobo, President of TISCO and Mr. Hu Yuting, Chief engineer of TISCO.
On Jan. 2nd 2009, a small-sized Mn18Cr18N protecting ring forging pieces was produced successfully through the elaborate organization and repeated tests. It realized the zero breakthrough of stainless steel development for ultra-high nitrogen more than 6000PPM while its performance index has reached the import level. At the meantime it has enhanced our research level in high-grade, precision and advanced projects of the State, tempered the scientific research team and laid a good foundation for the batch production capacity of protecting ring for generator with more than 300MW after revamping the section product system.
