"Rail Electric Traction Engineering Forum Held in Zhuzhou

To promote the development of electric traction technology of China s rail transportation, and build the platform of exhibiting pioneer technology and the latest achievements for exchanges, Rail Electric Traction Engineering Forum was held from July 12th to 15th in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province. The forum was hosted jointly by the Industrial Engineering Science and Technology Committee of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), Science and Technology Department of Hunan Province, as well as CSR Corporation Limited (once referred to as China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Cooperation Limited ), and co-organized by CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd., CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., Ltd. and CSR Zhuzhou Motor Co., Ltd. A total of ten CAE Members, namely, Wang Dianzuo, Wu Hequan, Tan Jianrong, Tang Renyuan, Li Hongzhi, Huang Chongqi, Lu Bingheng, Zhao Xu, Duan Zhengcheng and Liu Youmei attended the forum. Others also present at the forum were officials from Science and Technology Department of Hunan Provincial, Zhuzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, and Mr. Zheng Changhong, President of China South Locomotive, its Vice President Tang Kelin, its Chief Engineer Zhang Xinning, and renowned scholars from various institutions of higher learning and research institutes, as well as leaders, experts and researchers from CSR Zhuzhou, CSR Zhuzhou Motor etc. Chief Engineer Zhang Xinning and CAE Member Liu Youmei co-chaired the forum and over 270 participants presented.

This forum is composed of two parts, namely, keynote presentations section and invited presentations section. Five experts, that is, Ding Rongjun, Yang Ying, Zhang Hong, Long Guzong, Feng Jianghua gave presentations entitled Researches and Developments of Modern Railway Traction and Control Technology , Applications of Low Carbon Technologies into Urban Rail Transportation , Dynamics related Researches on High-Speed Trains , Innovative Researches and Applications of High-Speed EMU Transformer and Studies in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Traction Rail Transportation System respectively in the keynote reports section. And four CAE Members, Wu Hequan, Tan Jianrong, Tang Renyuan and Huang Chongqi made presentations entitled Two-Integration and Five-Manufacturing , Key Technologies in Common for Digital Design and Production and Their Application , Major Technical Problems Facing Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Motor Development , New Progress in Rail Electric Traction by Using Contact Wire in the invited reports section.

This forum gave a briefing of the present situation with regard to China s electric traction technology development, and the accomplishments achieved in this field. It has also started a heated discussion as to what can be done to the future rail electric traction technology, thus achieving better security, longer stability, higher efficiency and lower energy consumption. The lively and interesting reports delivered in the forum introduced the latest achievements of the current engineering science and technology field as well as frontier issues and problems, therefore triggered a huge amount of thinking which should be given to the development of rail transportation equipments technology in the future.

Mr. Wang Dianzuo, former Executive Vice President of CAE and Director of the Industrial Committee on Engineering Science and Technology, summarized the process and achievements of the forum. Wang said the presentations given in the forum are informative, quite substantial in content, pretty powerful in argumentation and full of original and innovative ideas, thus of great academic and practical value, which will certainly play a positive role in propelling the development of China's rail transportation equipments industry. We firmly believe that, with the support of governments at all levels, China's excellent equipments manufacturing enterprises will seize opportunities for strategic development, developing in a healthy and steady manner, therefore making more contributions for the development of Chinese industry by producing and providing products that are safer, more reliable, more energy-saving and more environmental-friendly, for China s rail traffic transportation industry. Meanwhile, the Industrial Committee on Engineering Science and Technology of CAE promises to continue to pay due attention to and place due emphasis on the development of rail transportation industry.

After the forum, academicians and experts who attended the forum were invited to visit and inspect all the subsidiary factories, workshops, plants and laboratories attached to CSR Co., Ltd. In addition, upon CAE Member Liu Youmei s invitation, another CAE Member Duan Zhengcheng gave a presentation on the High-Power Laser Cutting Welding Processing Technology and Equipments and communicated his thoughts with CSR officials and key technicians, who then reached basic agreement for cooperation in the future.
