On the morning of July 21st, Her Royal Highness Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn attended the 4th DAAD Children s University Shanghai at the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, CAS (SIBS).

The topic of this Children s University is Chemistry Recycling. The aim is to raise children s aspiration for science and environmental protection. Six experiments, such as recycling paper, extracting paint from tea, were conducted by seventy students from the primary and middle schools of Shanghai.
H.R.H. Princess Sirindhorn stated in the openning ceremony that she had heard about the Children s University with great interest for a long time and was very glad to be here to see how it functions. Mr. Thomas Willems, director of Shanghai Information Center of German Academic Exchanges Service (DAAD) introduced the concept of Children s University. Prof. CHEN Xiaoya, president of SIBS, added SIBS always attached great importance to science popularization so it was a great honor to host this event.
H.R.H. Princess Sirindhorn paid a visit to three labs, watched the experiments and interacted with children. Then Dr. Willems specifically introduced DAAD Children s University Series to H.R.H. Princess Sirindhorn.
The 4th DAAD Children s University Shanghai was hold by DAAD, hosted by CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Institute, and co-organized by Bielefeld University of Germany, Shanghai Education Association for International Exchange and Shanghai Ganquan Foreign Language Middle School. (SIBS)
