Sinopec Maoming Petrochemical plans to refine 1.21-mil mt of crude in January, with daily throughput up 12% from the previous month, a refinery source told C1.
The refinery has started construction of a 12-mil-mt/yr crude distillate unit and is expected to bring it on stream in 2012, when it would shut down two aged ones with annual capacity of 3-mil-mt and 2.5-mil mt, respectively, the source revealed, adding it would eliminate a 900,000-mt/yr fluid catalytic cracker at the same time.
Maoming Petrochemical, located in Maoming City of South China's Guangdong Province, owns a crude refining capacity of 13.5-mil mt per year. It mainly refines high-sulfur crude form Middle East and supplies its oil products to South and Southwest China.
