Zhongshan Holds Asian Games Torch Relay Rehearsal

The Guangzhou Asian Games Torch Relay Operation Centre held a test event in Zhongshan on September 20 where more than 1,000 police officers provided security support for the rehearsal. The 21 Guangdong cities that will host the Torch Relay sent representatives for observation.

The Torch Relay test event began at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Park at 9am with a launch ceremony. The flame, carried by 80 mock torchbearers, coursed through Boai Lu, Sunwen Lu and Xingzhong Lu and finally reached the Quanmin Jianshen Square (The Square of Fitness for All, literally).

Wang Ruoshi, Chief Director of the Guangzhou Asian Games Torch Relay Operation Centre, said his team will hold conferences after the rehearsal to finalize details of each leg and send advance teams to the 21 cities to give guidance. The selection of Zhongshan city s 80 torchbearers has entered its final stage.
