Security checks will be conducted on major transport hubs in Guangdong and neighboring regions from November 1 until the end of the Asian Games, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported last week.
To ensure tight security during the 16th Asian Games, the second biggest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympics, 30 checkpoints have been set up on Guangdong's main roads and 24 checkpoints for some roads in neighboring Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi and Hainan.
Surveillance will extend to rivers, coastal areas, airports, railway stations, bus stations, highways within Guangdong and neighboring areas.
In Jiangxi, all postal and express services to Guangzhou will register the information of consignors and articles will go through another security check before being delivered, especially those destined for the Asian Games venues and official hotels.
Guangzhou is limiting the number of cars on the city's roads, halting construction work and restricting the sales of kitchen knives or other large cutting tools.
