A November 19 press conference held by the Guangzhou Food and Drug Administration (GFDA) and Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) at Main Press Centre (MPC) briefed the media on food and drug safety and supply for the Asian Games.

"All the food and raw materials cannot be supplied to the people attending the Asian Games until sampling inspection is qualified by the testing department of the Guangzhou Municipal Government and cannot be supplied to the athletes until they are qualified lot-by-lot to be stimulant-free," said Lin Yongsheng, Deputy Commissioner of Guangzhou Food and Drug Administration. "Up to now, there have been no abnormal results in the examination, delivery, acceptance check and escort of the food and raw materials for the Asian Games," added Lin.

Officials from the Asian Games dinning unit checked 2,030 food and raw materials cases, 99.08 per cent of which passed qualification standards. "The directing and operating system was established and improved with national, provincial and city venues and enterprises at five levels for the safety of Asian Games food and drug, to ensure a smooth Asian Games," said Lin.

Lin stressed that the measures were carried out earnestly to prevent stimulant risk. Monitoring and examination for food of the Asian Games is in full process with a government circular or factory supervisory system.
