Write: Chruse [2011-05-20]

Shenzhen to begin a citywide publicity campaign for the sixth national census on Nov. 1.

The campaign is aimed at improving public awareness of the importance of the census, Vice Mayor Tang Jie said at a launch ceremony Sunday.

Each residential community will be required to publicize the census while schools are required to explain the census which will also be promoted on TV and mobile phones.

Shenzhen is home to a large number of people who frequently change jobs and places of residence, posing a challenge for census takers, the city s statistics department said.

Census takers will visit homes to register each person living in the city, covering everyone with or without Shenzhen hukou, including expats.

The census will record names, sex, ages, nationality, education, employment, marital status and residential status.

Census takers will be required to present a census certificate issued by the government, which can be verified on http://203.91.44.136/rp.

Census takers will visit households to double-check the information between Nov. 11 and 15.

According to the last census in 2000, Shenzhen s population density stood at 3,596 people per square kilometer, three times more than in 1990.

People between the ages of 15 and 64 accounted for more than 90 percent of the city s population.
