"Guangzhou's tourism industry is expected to generate over 100 billion yuan in 2010," Li Zhixin, the deputy chief of the Guangzhou Tourism Bureau said at a press conference yesterday (October 28th).

Guangzhou is a traditional commercial city, attracting many business people but few tourists. From January to September this year, about 1.6 million foreign visitors come to Guangzhou, 56% of which are Asians. Since 2006, Japanese tourists top the number of Asian visitors to Guangzhou, followed by Koreans, Malaysians, Indonesians, and Singaporeans.

According to Li Zhixin, Guangzhou now has 263 starred-hotels including 18 five-stars and 2,700 hostels. For the Guangzhou Asian Games and Para Games, 36 hotels have been designated as Asian Games hotels.
