32 towns and districts of Dongguan will fully implement the pilot project of garbage classification as of this year, targeting to realize the goal that 52% of domestic refuse receive proper treatment and disposal.
Currently, 12,000 tons of life garbage is produced here in Dongguan each day. However, only 37% receive pollution-free treatment. According to The Outline of the Plan for the Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta (2008-2020), the decontamination rate of refuse in Dongguan should reach 85% in 2012 and 52% in 2011.
In order to achieve the target, Dongguan is actively promoting the building and expansion of waste incineration plants in the city. So far, there are three waste incineration plants in the urban area, Houjie and Hengli townships already put into use. Another four plants will be built in Machong, Qingxi, Humen and Changping townships. The waste incineration plants in Qingxi, Humen and Machong townships have completed the research on quantity of refuse and technology. The environmental impact assessment for these plants is undergoing.
According to Zhong Yaoxiang, Director-General of Dongguan Environment Municipal Administration Bureau, the newly-built waste incineration plants will adopt internationally-advanced technology so that the emission limits will meet the EU standard.
