On October 5th, Vice-president Chen Xiaolong was invited to United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) Water Theme event, and introduced the exploration and practice of saving water that Tongji University did to chiefs of Shanghai Education Commission, representatives of Water Department from other cities in China, and representatives of primary and secondary schools in Shanghai.
Chen Xiaolong started from urbanization and urban water issues, took water-saving projects in Tongji for example, introduced water-saving technology combining with water-saving culture in Tongji, such as student bathroom, swimming pool, jiading campus irrigation water, No.1 Bus Stop, wetlands purification, and San Hao Wu water purification, and proposed deeper thinking of pushing regional practice to the nation.
Being as one of the 2010 World Habitat Week events, the UN-HABITAT Water Theme event aims to promote water, sanitation and health education under the concept of human value based project to the communities, especially to the primary and secondary schools. Tongji University participated in the judging process of the Shanghai Middle School Students Save Water Proposal competition as a Habitat partner university.
In addition, our university also participated in other activities held by the World Habitat from October 4th to 10th. On October 4th, student representatives of Tongji-Habitat foreign student programme attended the World Habitat Day celebration ceremony. From October 8th to 10th, our relevant department student representatives participated in the dialogue activity organized by the United Nations Pavilion.
