In the cool weather of the golden autumn, students from all over China were welcomed to SISU for a wonderful and promising future. On the morning of Sep. 12, SISU held the 2008 School Opening Ceremony at the stadium of Songjiang Faculty and Students ActivityCenter.
Prof. Cao Deming, President of SISU, Prof. Li Yuesong and Prof. Wang Jing, Deputy Secretaries of SISU Communist Party Committee, Prof. Sheng Yuliang and Prof. Zhang Shuguang, Vice Presidents of SISU, Prof. Yang Fan and Zhu Lei, from SISU Communist Party Committee Standing Committee, and leaders from other relevant departments were present. The ceremony was hosted by Prof. Li Yuesong.
The ceremony started in the solemn national anthem.
Prof. Cao Deming, President of SISU, delivered a significant speech to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to the new students of 2008 on behalf of the leaders, faculty, staff and students at SISU. In his speech, Prof. Cao reviewed SISU s nearly 60-year history and introduced SISU s achievements and goals in disciplinary construction, teaching and research, and human development. He urged students to remember their historic mission and social responsibility, cherish their life on campus, study hard and embody SISU s motto Personal Integrity and Academic Excellence . Prof. Cao expected that the freshmen today would be ambitious and aspiring SISU students; hardworking and comprehensively developed SISU talents; and trusty and promising SISU future stars.
Associate Prof. Yan Tingguo, Vice Dean of College of Oriental Language and Literature, gave a speech on behalf of all faculty members of SISU. He sincerely hoped that the new students would take their responsibilities and work hard for the nation s destiny, development and people s well-being. He also hoped that they could learn how to learn, be good at studying, and be persistent, tolerant and dedicated, so that they would adopt a wider vision and an open mind in their studies.
Wu Xiaoying, former students representative and Chair of Students Union shared her SISU experiences and reflections on growing up with the new students. She encouraged them to adapt to campus life, learn self-management skills, be self-reliant and self-educated, challenge as well as fulfill oneself during the four years at SISU to become a real SISU person who demonstrates what the motto advocates Personal Integrity and Academic Excellence.
Zou Weiwei from College of International Finance and Trade gave a speech representing all new students. She said that although coming from all over China and admitted to different colleges and schools, the new students have become part of SISU on their way of fulfilling their dreams. They will not only learn professional knowledge here, but also learn how to communicate with others, how to live independently and how to face difficulties and pressure in life.
The ceremony ended in a festival atmosphere and the new students of 2008 in school uniform have started their life on campus at SISU. (Department of Student Activity)
