Cooperation between Tsinghua and the Brookings Institution was further enhanced as Mr. John Thornton, Chairman of the Brookings Board of Trustees, and Mr. Strobe Talbott, former Deputy Secretary of State and current President of the Brookings Institution, visited Tsinghua on October 24.
Tsinghua President Gu Binglin had a talk with Mr. Thornton and Mr. Talbott prior to the Brookings Institution--Tsinghua University China Policy Seminar, held that morning. President Gu noted that Tsinghua will fully support the cooperation with the Brookings Institution. Mr. Thornton said that the Brookings Institution attached much importance to the collaboration with Tsinghua. He hoped such relations could be further enhanced in the future.
Tsinghua Vice President Cen Zhangzhi, Professor Xue Lan, Deputy Chair of the School of Public Policy and Management, also attended the meeting.
After the talk, Mr. Thornton and Mr. Talbott attended the Brookings Institution--Tsinghua University China Policy Seminar, held in the Reporting Hall of the School of Public Policy and Management.
In his address to the seminar, Vice President Cen said that the strategic cooperation relation established between Tsinghua and the Brookings Institution will further promote Tsinghua s research on public policy.
Mr. Thornton and Mr. Talbott both delivered speeches at the seminar, hosted by Deputy Chair Xue Lan. Professor Wing Thye Woo from the Brookings Institution, Li Daokui, Professor of School of Economics and Management and director of Center for China in the World Economy, and Hu Angang, Professor of School of Public Policy and Management and director of Center for China Study, Tsinghua University, also attended the seminar.
The Brookings Institution Tsinghua University Strategic Cooperation Singing Ceremony was held later after the seminar.
The Brookings Institution is a private nonprofit organization devoted to independent research and innovative policy solutions. Mr. Thornton is currently the director of the Global Leadership Program at Tsinghua University, where he also serves as a professor.
