ZTT Gains Chongqing Power's Heavy Ice Load and Lightning Resistant OPGW Project

In late June, Chongqing Power Company sends the notice of winning the tender. Only Zhongtian Hitachi Fiber Optic Cable gains the bid of "220kV Wupeng Qianxiu I and II Circuit Power Transmission Line's Heavy Ice Load and Lightning Resistant New Construction Project's OPGW and Fittings".
220kV Wupeng Qianxiu I and II Circuit Optimized Reconstruction is the key project of Chongqing Power Company in 2005. The line has average 50 lightning days every year and it transits four ice areas (10mm, 20mm, 30mm, 40mm). So both the heavy ice load area with complicated landforms and lighting resistance of OPGW shall be taken into consideration. It's a very hard design. Therefore, Chongqing Power company consigns Northeast Power Design Institute to do the design. Zhongtian Hitachi Fiber Optic Cable Co., Ltd.(ZHC)also takes part in it.
With regard to the two difficult technical problems of heavy ice load and lightning resistance in OPGW application, ZHC carries out the deep research at an earlier time. At the "Power Special Optical Cable Application Proseminar" in December, 2003, ZHC issues the study of "OPGW Ligitning Reliability Research". In May, 2005, ZHC assists the "Power Special Optical Cable Application Technology Academic Conference" sponsored by China Electrical Engineering Academy's Power Transmission Committee and Telecommunication Committee and supported by domestic OPGW and Fittings Manufacturers. At the conference, ZHC issues the study of "OPGW Lightning Performance's Data Analysis Methods". It first does the quantitative data analysis systematically on the qualitative analysis basis of OPGW Lightning Breaking Theory Discussion and Solvement of OPGW Lightning resistance which has got the agreement in the industry. So this study aroses the experts' great interests at the conference. ZHC not only carries out theoretical research but also consigns Canadian KINECTRIC Laboratory, Polish National Power Laboratory, China Electric Power Science Research Institute and Wuhan High Voltage Research Institute to do lightning comparison tests of OPGW for projects. So ZHC gets a comprehensive understanding of OPGW lightning performance. At the "OPGW DL/T 832-2003 Standards Implementation Conference" in June, 2004, ZHC issues the study of "Choice of OPGW in Heavy Ice Load Area" and initiates the research of OPGW Application in Heavy Ice Load Area. In 2005, ZHC is invited to joint the "Discussion and Communication Conference of OPGW in Heavy Ice Load Area" organized by Central China Grid Company Limited. ZHC discusses the heavy ice load OPGW research results with other experts and gets the extensive agreement.
Winning this bidding makes the company's research results further applied. All Al-clad Steel Structure OPGW specially designed for this project has good lightning resistance and large ratio between RTS and weight. It fully meets the requirement of all the technical specifications and it is very suitable for application in heavy ice load area. Now the company has prepared raw materials selection, equipments and technics optimization and quality control guarantee. ZHC will try their best to achieve the project construction with high-quality products.
