President Yang Zhen talks about International Academic Exchange

On the morning of Nov 12th, organized by NJUPT, the 12th IEEE ICCT 2010 opened at the Nanjing Shuangmenlou Hotel. Experts including Mr. Zhou Mengqi, Chairman of China Council of IEEE, Prof. David P. Mellor, President of British Telecommunications Institute, Prof. You Xiaohu from Southeast University, Prof.Yum Tak-Shing from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, President Yang Zhen, vice president Liu Chen of NUPT, executives from some Nanjing-based universities, as well as some staffs in both the School of Telecommunication and Information Engineering and Science & Technology Office attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof.Niu Zhisheng from Tsinghua University.
During the ceremony, President Yang extended a warm welcome to all attendants and Chairman Zhou made a jubilant speech. Zhao Houlin, ITU Deputy Secretary General and Prof. of NJUPT, who had not been able come, wrote to the forum inviting universities as well as the research institutions to participate in ITU s activities and deliver speeches in their own names, and be part of the decision-making on criteria in relevant fields.
Prof.David P. Mellor, Prof. You Xiaohu and Prof.Yum Tak-Shing, three outstanding scientists in the field of telecommunications technology, delivered keynote speeches on the latest developments in the field. Prof.Hong Wei from Southeast University presided over the session.
The three-day conference concluded on Nov.14th. After the keynote speeches, the attendants divided up in 6 workshops to discuss theories and applied researches on communication technology. The topics included basic theories on the NGT (Next Generation Network), gigabit network switching and routing, hardware design of communication, software of communication, broadband wireless and mobile communication, digital signal processing, appliances and services of network as well as the developing trend, latest technologies, industrial transformation, and new opportunities.
After the opening ceremony, president Yang Zhen had an interview Jiangsu Education TV, and proudly explained that the conference chose NUPT to be the organizer because the university has enjoyed its fame in this field both domestically and internationally. Meanwhile, President Yang emphasized the university s need to hold more international academic conferences in order to enhance its academic strength. Hosting international academic conferences and sending staff and students abroad provides them opportunities to communicate with top scholars in the fields, which will broaden their horizons and help them become better researchers.
The conference was hosted by IEEE Beijing Branch and IEEE Nanjing Branch, co-hosted by China Institute Of Communications, The Chinese Institute of Electronics, Southeast University, PLA University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Nanjing University. Nearly 800 representatives from 28 countries and regions had submitted papers to the conference, 360 of which were admitted. More than 400 representatives had participated in the conference. The first ICCT was held in 1987 in Nanjing.
