Minister for Infrastructure Development in Tanzania Visits SMU

On December 25th, the delegation headed by Dr. Shukuru Kawambwa, Minister of Infrastructure Development in Tanzania visited SMU.

Prof. Yu Shicheng, President of SMU and Prof. Jin Yongxing, Vice President of SMU extended warm welcome to the guests. Prof. Yu says that the profound and long-term relationship between China and Tanzania is based on mutual support and pursuit of mutual development. SMU and Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute signed the Exchange and Cooperation Agreement in October, 2008 and several exchange students are studying in SMU now.

SMU sent experts joining IMO assessment mission to visit this Institute in September, 2009. Prof. Yu also briefed the guests on the education and scientific research as well as the construction of SMU New Campus in progress.

Dr. Shukuru Kawambwa expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality he and his colleagues received in SMU . He points out that Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute, with its limited scale, is seeking for cooperation with outstanding maritime institutes worldwide. He hopes that the more exchange will be conducted in staff training, teaching facilities and curriculum setting. During the visit, Dr. Shukuru Kawambwa was shown around the shipping simulation center, the gym and the library.
