Vice President Ji Zong an Visiting the U.S.

Vice president Ji Zong an visited the United States from May 16th to May 24th, 2008. The main purposes of the visit were to make academic contact with American experts and scholars in the area of Chinese and overseas Chinese studies, find out about the living condition of Chinese and overseas Chinese in the U.S. and the latest research result on it, and explore the possibility of cooperative research undertaken by scholars from both China and the United States.

President Ji Zong an visited many institutions, including Institute of Southeast Asian Studies of Harvard University, Department of Eastern Asia studies of Princeton University, Center for Chinese Studies of Minnesota University, and Association of Chinese-British History of Massachusetts, etc., and met some experts in related field. During the visit, President Ji met with leaders and representatives from over 20 associations of overseas Chinese from 6 cities in 5 states.

The visit has achieved the anticipated results and has been a success. Harvard University, Princeton University, Minnesota University, and Association of Chinese-British History of Massachusetts all expressed a wish for developing various academic exchanges among the Universities, and showed willingness of sharing their world class books and document resources. Some attended scholars said that they hope to take part in the International Symposium on Overseas Chinese Studies that will be held in Jinan next year. Some leaders of the associations of overseas Chinese also showed their interest in cooperatively organizing summer and winter camp for children of overseas Chinese. The matter related on the cooperation will be discussed when some of the leaders visit Jinan later this year.
