On the afternoon of June 29, Mr. Mike Thompson, Senior Economist of the Committee on Climate Change, UK Parliament visited College of Economics. Mr. Mike Thompson had a roundtable discussion entitled Economic Perspective of UK/China Action on Low Carbon Development with experts from the college. Experts from British Consulate General Guangzhou, China Development Institute, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Guangzhou Branch of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and South China University of Technology also attended the discussion.
In the context of global warming, Low Carbon Economy , which is based on low energy and low pollution, has become a global focus. A heated discussion was held on issues including UK s strategy and action addressing the climate change, China s current policy on tackling climate change and low carbon development, renewable energy research and policy development in China and the UK and how could research community influence government s policy making on energy and climate change issues, etc.
