South-east Asia Chinese Language Media Data Base put to test

Having undergone four years of hard effort, the South-east Asia Chinese Media Data Base, jointly built by the Ministry of Education and Overseas Chinese is put to test recently. The data base, as an important program of the National Language Data Supervision and Research Center, its establishment will play a very important role to overseas Chinese language studies, the compling of overseas Chinese teaching materials and especially the studies on Chinese language development in south-east asia.

The language data for this data base are mainly from Chinese language news paper, chinese website in south-east asia, mainly in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailan. The establishment of the data base bases on the three elements: accessability of the language data, media influence and information content.
